A good listener is someone who cares about what others people say, but that's not enough, we have to show them that we are interested in what they are saying by looking at the person or nodding. We can disagree with what the other people say and that doesn't make us bad listener, just make us human.
If a people wants to encourage what the other people think we can smile and touch the person.
In contrast, a bad listener is someone who is always interrupting and is always making fun of what the others say. You can disagree, but you still should want to be a respected person.

Melting pot or salad bowl

Well, in the melting pot there is a tendency to the assimilation of cultures, so all the diversity that enrich the world disappear and we end up all with the same culture. In contrast, there is the salad bowl where each culture preserve their uniqueness.
In Portugal I think that looks more like a salad bowl, because I don`t think we are so patriotic like the american (except when the national selection is playing). I think that portuguese people have a lot of stereotypes and they have difficulties in accepting the difference. For example, maybe they don`t treat people badly when they are in the store, but if they`re sons ask them to marries someone from the minority, a lot of them will not like. Why is that? What minorities have less then the others?  
So I think that portuguese people are hypocrite, they don`t  want to be mixed with other. They don`t tend to obligate others to adopt the portuguese culture, so they aren`t harsh, but in the end, they don`t want to make a part of their families and that`s sad because I think that diversity is a good thing and that improve our love to the world.

Pedro Hernandez....What contribution you can give to the classroom?

We could give specific examples of problems we have in our daily lives ,related to education, and make comparison with what happens in our countries. Because sometimes what happens in our daily lives is not what generally happens in our country.
In the end, came up with solutions to overcame this problems.
For example, in my country same man think they are better than women, just because they have more strength. We can`t teach our children this concept of macho man, because is harmful and women can also achieve high objectives. 
Worse then this problem is the genital mutilation and the dead penalty to women that don`t deserve. The education can help this gender by making petitions, writing letters or even books and send them there,etc. I know that people say that we have to respect others people`s cultures, but when  this cultures are not being ethic and they are putting people`s life in danger...then I don`t care if I am going against their beliefs.
Do you guys want games? what about a game where we can only talk with each other with our native language, use gestures or draws.  The objective is showing that is difficult for a person to talk with each other when we don`t speak the same language.
Another game could be Pedro put us in a situation where we have to say what would we say or do if that happen.
A question stays in the air...What will you do when you return to your countries after this experience?

Eis que comeca a caca ao telefone , pois ja estava na posso do meu cartao..Resultado..ninguem sabe onde se encontra uma cabine telefonica, logo tenho de passar ao plano b..lol.

Estou agora a pensar...como sera que vou conseguir levar tanta carga para tras...os livros sao pesados,etc,etc,etc..
Solucao....vestir cinco blusas,4 calcas...lool..passei tanto mal a viagem que se sentisse o calor da roupa morria de vez.
Uma coisa que existe aqui com muita frequencia e lugares para arranjar as unhas...acho que vou passar a ir...se calhar vai ser a ultima coisa que preciso para me transformar de vez em americana...just kidding
O que diz na porta do edificio onde vivo e ..@Se bateres a porta, nos nao vamos atender..loool.
Ultima observacao feliz....nao me esqueci de nada..hihi.

Cegada aos USA

A viagem foi extenuante

2 horas para Lisboa

7 horas para Filadelfia

4 horas para Phoenix

3 horas para Spokane

No fim da viagem eu expelia o conteudo do meu estomago na casa de banho atraves da boca...lol. estava muito mal disposta..pior viagem da minha vida em termos  de saude.Nem me queria mexer muito para nao ficar pior ainda, logo passei as ultimas viagens sem ler, comer, etc.
Quando finalmente cheguei a Spokane com a Daniela, senti-me a vontade com as pessoas .O quarto era perfeito, so havia um problema, nao tinha nem telefone nem televisao.
As pessoas aqui sao surpreendentemente generosas, por exemplo, no aeroporto pagaram-me um dolar para eu tirar o carrinho, a peer mentor deixou-me comer da sua comida enquanto eu nao arranjasse e ficou encarregue de limpar a casa de banho. Alem disso, uma senhora deu-me boleia para eu transporta as minhas compras ate Brewster Hall, que e onde eu resido agora
No que concerne aos estudos, que e por causa disso tambem que eu estou ca, deram-me varios livros e pediram-me logo que comcasse a ler um e para arrematar tudo deram-me logo dinheiro.
Referindo-me agora as pessoas da ilha Terceira, pediram-me que os avisasse ,sem falta, quando chegasse a Spokane...resultado...quando cheguei la ja tinha feito duas chamadas em Filadelfia e Phoenix, logo nao consegui telefonar a dizer que tinha chegado. Passado dois dias e que consegui falar pelo pc.lool.

Effective classrom and worthwhile and valuable experience

3.  What do you think an effective classroom looks like? What makes a classroom experience worthwhile and valuable?
 An effective classrom should be a place where you're not afraid to express you're opinion, where you respect everyone, but you're sincere and have a critic perspective, because you believe that not everyting is perfect and that the evolution never stops. I'm not saying that we should critiquize everyting or that we should make destructive statments, I'm just saying that helping others with our sincere opinion is the path to a richer learning.
Let's be corny, I believe that our personality should be reflected in our conversations and wirting and we shouldn't hide what we're just because we want to have a good grade. Of course, that when we're in a environment where a teacher don't stand is an oppressor, of course we have to play the game and just learn to be fake.
For me , the more significant learnings were the ones made trough investigation , visit studies , learnings that prepared us to the daily life. For example, once I gave a class where I talked about vulcanoes because in my islands there is a lot of them, so all the students wanted to talk about the ones they knew,etc.
Finaly, I think that when the teachers give liberty with responsibility we can be the best that we want to be and love what we do.

Barriers that get in the way of student learning

I thing that when the parents don't care about they're children, they feel less motivated, because the learning stop being a priority to them or they don't have money to keep going.
Also, some persons don't born liking  some subjects, for example, I don't like Math, so I don't feel motivated to learn even thought the teacher is good
Finaly, the fact that some knowledgment is not very valued to get good grades, like studing cinema because will lead to unemployment 

Major factors that assist students with learning

1.  What do you think are the major factors that assist students with learning? Feel free to mention any factors that are present in the classroom, the school community itself, or outside of school as you write your answer.

I thing that the major factor that help students is the effort of the teachers, the good expectations that they have of them, the ideia that the students can make a difference and are important to the future. When a teacher let the learners express their perceptions and give feedback ,the students feel more interested. In the learning there are a lot of things that the teacher should give importance: rythim, necessities, tastes, etc of the students.  Is important that the professor have in mind that a student is unique so he shouldn't create stereotipes.I know some teachers that aren't professional, so they are mean to their students and give bad grades as a revenge, even when they don't deserve. Of course is not politcal correct to say that exist teachers that discriminate their students, however I already felt in the skin the bad consequences of this problem, so I thing is primodial that we talk about this.

Also, a pleasent place is important, so we feel comfortable and well received.

Finaly, I thing that when  the community participate in the activities, the learning is more significant. For example, if one institution borrow a bus, the students can make a study visit.

Hello everyone..My name is Susana Cristina Dinis Andrade and I'm twenty years old. I'm from Azores,Portugal. I live in a island called Terceira. I love to walk on the beach, read, be with friends, watch movies, shop and make my own acessories.

I  think this four weeks and a half are going to be one of the most memorable moments of my life. Will be a time to learn and grow, to smile and to help, to stop my normal life for a moment and just let people change my life...
